Starwood Opens its Largest Hotel Worldwide: 4K-Room Sheraton ...

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. has announced the opening of the first phase of the Sheraton Macao Hotel, Cotai Central, the largest hotel in Starwood?s global portfolio, as well as the largest hotel in Macau. It is also the largest hotel to open worldwide in 2012.

Phase one of the Sheraton Macao Hotel, Cotai Central consists of the 1,829-key Sheraton Sky Tower. The tower features a 13,000-square-foot Sheraton Club Lounge, the world?s largest, as well as the Kashgar Grand Ballroom, the development?s main ballroom, the size of 11 basketball courts. The Sky Tower also features a Palms Lounge, a signature Link@SheratonTM communication hub in the lounge, a luxurious Sala Pool on level four, and the Shine Spa and Sheraton Core Performance fitness facility with a health and fitness program exclusive to the Sheraton brand via its partner Core Performance.

Sheraton Macao?s second and final phase is expected to open early in 2013. Dubbed Sheraton Earth Tower, it will feature 2,067 rooms as well as two additional outdoor pools. When fully operational, Sheraton Macao Hotel will boast?a total of 3,896 guest rooms and more than 160,000 square feet of meeting space, as well as spectacular views of the Cotai Strip. Dining options will include three signature restaurants. Guests will be able to unwind at three outdoor pools outfitted with poolside cafes, private cabanas and luxurious foliage. The hotel will have specially designated family suites furnished with children?s bedding and play area as well as a Kids Club, a special play area for toddlers, complete with a ball pool, bounce houses and entertainment technology such as Wiis and Xboxes.

The hotel will employ a staff of around 1,500 speaking 19 different languages from Mandarin and Cantonese to Russian, English, Portuguese, Taiwanese, Italian, Swedish, various Chinese dialects and many more. The staff also went through a massive simulation as part of their training with 10,000 guests checking in and out through a two-week period.

Sheraton Macao Hotel is part of Sands Cotai Central, the newest fully integrated resort and premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination on the Cotai Strip. The Sands Cotai Central features around 6,000 hotel rooms, 1.2 million square feet of retail, entertainment and dining facilities, and meeting and convention space. It?s home to around ?600 luxury duty-free stores?, ?two spas, three health clubs and 300,000 square feet ?of gaming space in two, uniquely-themed gaming areas.

The Cotai Strip is located in Macau, one of two special administrative regions in the People?s Republic of China, the other being Hong Kong. Macau is the world?s biggest gaming and casino market, generating four times the revenue of Las Vegas, the former market leader that it surpassed in 2006. Macau is also the sole place in China where casino resorts are legal.
