LONG BEACH (KTLA) -- Nearly two dozen cruise ship passengers are headed back to the Port of Long Beach after they were robbed at gunpoint during a trip in Mexico. The passengers reportedly were returning to their Carnival Splendor cruise ship from an inland tour in Puerto Vallarta on Thursday when armed bandits stopped their bus and robbed them.
Luckily, no one was hurt and all passengers were returned to the ship safely.
Carnival released a statement saying it sincerely apologizes to its guests for this "very unfortunate and disturbing event and is providing full support and assistance."
The cruise line is helping victims find lost passports and other identification and is reimbursing for any lost valuables.
The tour, which features a guided nature trail hike and is part of the cruise, has been suspended at this time.
Earlier this month the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning to Mexico after tourism officials expressed concern over the rising crime rate in the country.
